An October Read-A-Thon – Read Like Hell-A-Thon!

What is the Read Like Hell-A-Thon?
It’s a read-a-thon in October with a Halloween-horror-esque theme. This is the 4th year and we’re changing things up a bit this year – this will span October AND November for 2023.
Instructions
Levels and prompts can be read in any order you wish. Think of them more as groups instead of stepping stones to the next level.
The only exception is the BONUS level in which you need to finish the other three levels as well to achieve.
Each character has more prompt choices than needed to give you options. Read all the prompts for extra points (the points don’t matter, except for bragging power).
“Basic Witch” Level
To achieve the “Basic Witch” level, read one book from each of the three characters’ prompt choices (three books total).
Bellatrix Lestrange
- A book with an adaptation
- A book with a trans character or written by a trans author
- A book with a psychopathic character
- A book about hunting/convicting witches
Willow Rosenberg
- A book with a bisexual MC
- A book involving vampires
- A book with a redhead MC
- A book with a woman in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math)
The Owens Sisters
- A book about witches
- A book about sisters
- A book with strong feminist themes
- A book set in a small town
“Curious Creatures” Level
To achieve the “Curious Creatures” level, read two books from each of the three characters’ prompt choices (six books total).
Church
- A book with “dead” or “death” in the title
- A book about grief or trauma
- A book by an author who has written over 10 books
- A book with a cat
- A book about letting go
Bartok
- A book with a necromancy theme
- A book with a toxic relationship
- A book involving royalty
- A book set in Russia, written by a Russian author, OR includes a Russian character
- A book with a villain/pseudo-villain turned-hero
The Birds
- A book with a bird, rabbit, or snake on the cover
- A book set in California
- A book where nature turns against humans
- A book published before 1990
- A book set in a city you plan to visit in 2023-2024
“Dastardly Dark Duos” Level
To achieve this level, read two books from each of the four characters’ prompt choices (eight books total).

- A love story with opposites attract
- A graphic novel
- A book with a hand on the cover
- A book with roses on the cover
- A book where family is everything
Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett
- A book with a historical fiction setting
- A book where music plays a large role
- A book with revenge themes
- A book with a co-workers to lovers trope
- A book with cannabilism
The Maitlands
- A book with a haunted house setting
- A book about ghosts
- A book with a repeating word in the title
- A book with dark humor
- A cult-classic book
The Monster and Bride
- A book with gothic themes
- A book with a scientist
- A book with a black and white cover
- A book with a partner/mate “made for them”
BONUS Level
To achieve the “Sam” BONUS level, read a book for two prompts (two books total).
Sam
- A book that is the spirit of Halloween
- A book with an orange cover
- A book with a character that’s a stickler for rules
- A book with candy on the cover
- A book with a mask on the cover or with a masked character
